Midweek Update This last Sunday we reflected upon our history as a church and celebrated our Church Anniversary. We are 44 years young this year—Congratulations! Desiree and I talked about Charles Fillmore’s understanding that everything that is visible came from what is not visible. That invisible substance is the realm of ideas. When we have a desire, it is God knocking at the door of our consciousness. It is up to us to answer the door when we feel that desire knocking. Behind each desire is a divine idea. It seems that the infant mortality rate is highest among ideas. They seldom survive more than a few days. Are we truly listening to these ideas when they arise in our consciousness? I have read in the Bible that God knows our needs even before we ask. I was giving this some thought today and realized that of course God knows our needs and has already provided to us the means to meet those needs and to fulfill our desires. God provides this abundance in the form of ideas. We often hear the remark that God “gives” us answers to our prayers, but we realize that these answers come to us in the form of ideas. -Vera Dawson Tait, Take Command Let’s not downplay ideas when they show up. Let’s embrace them and know that this is a direct connection to the infinite. - Rev Bill P.S. 2009 Faith in Action Pledge Program update. As of Monday Nov. 17th, we have 130 people pledging $245,715 of our $500,000 goal. Pledge cards are available in the office or in the seatbacks on Sunday. I encourage you to give in proportion to what you are receiving at Unity In Marin. Coming this Sunday This Sunday I will be speaking on the topic of Unconditional Giving. For years I thought that I was giving unconditionally, yet I realized that this was not always the case. When I looked closely I realized that I had invisible strings attached to many gifts I was giving. I would ask myself before buying the gift, “Will I be there when it is opened?” I was really thinking how would this reflect upon me.
I would give a gift of money if I thought I knew it would be used a certain way. I would be upset if I found out that it wasn’t used in the manner I had expected. It wasn’t until I heard a story from my uncle about giving that I really understood what it meant to give unconditionally. It has stayed with me for years. I look forward to sharing this story with you on Sunday.
Please join us,
- Rev. Bill |
